South central would be known as  a ghetto place. When people hear the word ghetto they think poor, bad, handy, gun shots, projects, and all these negative stuff. What they think of ghetto is basically describing South Central but like everything its not so bad. Some positive stuff about South Central is the food and the amount of diversity we have. Living here could also teach you life lessons by preparing you to be responsible. All these bad things that happen make you think about your future. Like I said South Central is both positive and negative. Everything from the past created what South Central is. It is not our fault for what the media made you believe in us. The three events thta have had the greater impact are the early history, gang history, and the crack epidemic.

One of the events that have made South Central what it is today is the early history. Los Angeles was originally founded by Africans and Indigenous people in which now and days thats most of our population. One of our fisrt governors was mixed Black and Indigenous though now and days you wont see that. I think the early history was good but things started to become bad because of whites. Many things would of turned out better if we had equal rights because maybe we could have another indigenous governor but they wont let them because they need to be citizens.  This changed South Central because it s not how it is today . Its different because now we are known as the bad place when back then it wasnt all bad but it was good and peacefull and more equally.

The second event is the gang history. Gangs didnt start bad. They first formed to protect themselve against whites. They also helped the community. These gangs that helped us consisted of the Black Panther Party and the Brown Berets. But the government didnt like them so they made a program called COINTELPRO to kill them. After the Blak panters and the Brown Berets began to dissolve smaller gangs came to be. But those smaller street gangs didn’t care about helping their people they just went out of control. These gangs did have truces but the government always had something to do something that made them become rivals again. If it werent for the government we would not had bad gangs or no gangs just people that wanted to help the community. This has made a big impact on the community because gangs are a big deal these days. We have a high amount of death rates because gangs were having a drive by or they just saw someone frome their rival and shot someone else accidently. These gangs today are worser than they were when they started.

The third event is the Crack Epidemic. The crack epidemic was when many people turned o drugs when they lost their job. The Nicaraguans had trade crack for weopons and then the CIA would sell it to the drug dealers and they to us. Now and days if you go walking around the corner wou would smell any type of drug. It wasnt our fault that there was a crack epidemic but our government because they sold it to us. The impact that it has on families  is that they get torn apart. Also you would be a low skilled worker that wouldnt even get a job to raise our own family. This changed South Central because it turned out worse when at the begining it was all good.

All of these events led to what it is today which were the early history, gang history, and the crack epidemic. I chose these three because they were the ones that really did change it and it made South Central what it is. Not all the events where our fault but it was other people who made it like this and we just did it because we didnt have that many options. In the future I think South Central would probably be kind of better. For instance this year some students have a beter option of school but then again others cant have summer school because the district cant afford to have it. It would also maybe be more peaceful but we would probably still have gangs that is the only thing I think wont change. But I really hope it does change like how some things where at the begining.
